Beauty Favourites 2015

It's the last day of the year and I've decided to do something special to ring in the new year. This year has been a great year for beauty and some great lines have been released from my favourite brands. This year I discovered some gems and today I will share my top picks. I will show you my favourite makeup products of the year. Many of these products have been featured on this blog over the past year.

The Benefit PoreFessional primer was certainly the one that stood out to me as the as the best of this year. This silicon based primer provides the perfect layer between your skin and your makeup. With this product, I find that  a little goes a long way and my mini sized product lasted months.

Because I am so pale it's hard to find foundations that match my skin. This means that my choices are quite limited. In 2015 Rimmel released a new shade in their foundation ranges. This shade is light enough to fit even me! Hopefully in 2016, more brands will follow the lead of Rimmel and release a bigger variety of shades. This is why I chose the Rimmel Match Perfection foundation as the best of 2015. It is medium coverage and is quite buildable. It has no problems with clinging to dry patches and applies evenly. It has a satin finish, in my opinion.

MAC blew me away with their ProLongwear Concealer. It manages to erase my in-erasable undereye circles without creasing. It is a very high coverage concealer and will cover any imperfection. Only the smallest amount amount of the product is needed and it lasts on your face for hours. This is certainly my favourite concealer and I will repurchase it when it runs out.

My favourite powder of 2015 was the Essence Mattifying Compact Powder. This only costs a couple of euros but it works as well as any highend powder. It sets base makeup perfectly without making the makeup look cakey. I bought this on a whim and never looked back. This lightweight powder doesn't give much coverage but mattifies makeup beautifully.

Extended Face

There were many strong contenders in this category but I've managed to narrow it down to just one. My favourite contour powder this year was the NYX High Definition Blush in the shade Taupe. This is a cool toned contour and is my perfect contour shade. It is subtle and buildable.

The Sleek Makeup Blush in the shade Flushed was my favourite this year. The shade Flushed is a gorgeous matte plum shade. It gives a natural flush to the cheeks. These blushes are buildable and inexpensive. This shade looks good on light skin shades when applied with a light hand but looks even better on darker skin tones.

There is no doubt that my top highlighter of 2015 was the Benefit High-Beam highlighter. This highlighter gives a beautiful radiant glow to the skin and reflects light in a way that gives the impression of good bone structure. This is quite pricey but the mini is inexpensive and has lasted me an age!

The Gwen Stefani Urban Decay palette is still new to me but it has stood out to me as some of the best quality eyeshadows that I have tried. They are extremely pigmented and create a perfect neutral eyelook. The palette is very versatile and can be used to execute many different eye looks for any occasion. The palette has taupes, golds and even a navy and a pink.

I'm a big fan of liquid liner and have tried many over the last year. This year, I discovered Barry M's Liquid Eye Liner. It has a small, precise, cone shaped applicator. It gives a strong black line and applies very easily. This is one of the products that I used up and then repurchased. It is brilliant!

I couldn't decide which mascara I prefer so I've decided to show you two. My favourites of 2015 were Benefit RollerLash and the YSL Babydoll  mascara. These mascaras are both worth the price tag as the quality is amazing!

MAC lipsticks have never failed me. They are pigmented, moisturising and very long lasting! I think that, if you have not already, you should invest in one of these lipsticks. I cannot fault these lipsticks!

That's the end of this post! It took quite a bit of time and I hope you enjoyed!
Happy new year and I hope you have a great 2016!

Thanks for reading!

Gwen Stefani Urban Decay

Ahhh! I can hardly contain myself because today, we will be discussing the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani eye-shadow palette. I bought this as my Christmas present to myself.

I'll admit that as I walked into House Of Fraser I had butterflies in my stomach. For some strange reason I felt nervous?!

This palette contains fifteen shades, mostly shimmery. There are 12 shades exclusive to this palette and three that are favourites among Urban Decay lovers.

This is a limited edition palette (so drop whatever you're doing and go out and get this!).
This is also the first collaboration that UD have ever done with a celebrity.

Gwen's choice of packaging is perfection! This palette certainly stands out in my collection as the best packaged. The polka dot design is gorgeous. Gwen described it as being futuristic but also retro at the same time.

The palette has black polka dots on a white background. Surrounding the black and white is a gold border. It is very reminiscent of an empty eyeshadow palette.

The casing is sturdy and durable. No worries of corners being cut!

The Product
Many people were expecting a more extravagant palette from Gwen. Instead of a palette with bright shades she gave us a mainly neutral palette. She is and was well known for her daring outfits and hairstyles but she generally sticks to a neutral eye, winged liner and a red lip. In fact, I think this palette represents her very well

I originally thought that there were far too many light shades but I now think they each serve a  different purpose.

Each of these shades are pigmented when swatched. The only shade with issues is the shade "Pop". I found that the glitter in this particular shade was chunkier and there was a tiny bit of fallout.
I will go as far as saying that these eyeshadows are very blendable. With the slight exception of "Pop" each shade is very finely milled.

The best thing about this palette are matte shades. They are extremely pigmented and are very very blendable. When applied to the lid, the shimmery shades seem to sheer out. I personally like this as a subtle wash of shimmer can tie a whole look together.

Final Thoughts
I absolutely love this palette! This is my idea of the perfect day-to-day palette. It has every shade that I would  want or need on a daily basis.

This palette retails at 46 euro and can be bought here:

In The Know - Christmas Sales! | Pale and Interesting

By the time this goes up, it will be Christmas Eve!
Happy Christmas!

I feel like I haven't started a series on my blog in an age. Hopefully, this one will survive more than two posts (s/o to you Product of the Week!).

In this series, In The Know, I will deliver my tips on an array of different topics. These could range from beauty techniques to debating tips.

I hope you like this series!

In this post I will discuss my sales shopping tips - random, I know.
It may seem that once Christmas is over, there is nothing to live for anymore. Boy, is that wrong - the fun is only starting! You've still got the sales to live for.
The best day to go sales shopping is St. Stephens Day/ Boxing Day/ The day after Christmas.
Here are my top tricks and tips for sales shopping.

1. Make a List
Before you even leave your house you must analyse what you have and what you don't,  what you need and what you don't. Make a physical list of everything you need. Perhaps you want a pair of black boots but aren't willing to pay full price for them - put it on the list.

2. Don't make Impulse Purchases
To get the most out of your sales shopping experience, organisation is key. Just because something is reduced doesn't mean it's worth buying. You may regret your purchase and will forever have live with that burden.

3. The Real Discounts Are Hidden
If you know the Boots in Dundrum, you will know how the store is laid out. They have the luxury brands at the entrance and the drugstore brands towards the back. After Christmas, you can find the best discounts on gift sets down at the back of Boots. It's the same with most shops and it's your job to find the best discounts.

4. Shop Alone
I personally dislike shopping with company. I feel obliged to spend only a couple of minutes in each shop and if not, I feel as though I am wasting that person's time. I know many people feel the same way. This is why it is important to shop alone. You can only concentrate on the task at hand when you can give the sales your undivided attention.

5. Don't Shop When You're Hungry/Tired
Trust me, this is an equally big waste of time as shopping with company. You only get the opportunity of Christmas sales once a year. Prepare! Stock up on energy, fuel and moolah before you head out into the sales.

Thanks for reading!

Have a great Christmas and enjoy spending time with friends and family!

Talk to you soon!

The Whole She-Bang | Soap and Glory Brand Review | Pale and Interesting

I recently received a massive box of goodies from the brand Soap and Glory. This is a brand not only well known for its pampering products and toiletries but also for its brilliant makeup line.

In the beautiful package there were nine full sized products. Here is my (completely unbiased) opinion of the products.

If you wish to buy the set featured in this post, The Whole She-Bang, click here

This gift set retails for €81 and contains the following products:
The Scrub of Your Life
Heel Genius
The Righteous Butter Tinted Body Lotion
Hand Food
The Righteous Butter
Clean on Me Shower Gel
Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk
Thick And Fast Mascara
Sexy Mother Pucker Lipgloss

Here are my opinions on the products that I put to the test.

The Scrub of Your Life
This is something I have tried in the past and loved. Last year I got a mini size of this and used it within a month and a half. I can honestly say that this is the best scrub I have ever used. It smell heavenly, its not too abrasive and it leaves my skin feeling so soft! You need to try this!

Heel Genius
Unlike many of the products I received this one was new to me. This hydrates the feet really well and leaves them feeling as soft as any other part of your body. This product will definitely be used in abundance by me in the lead up to summer.

The Righteous Butter Sunkissed Tint Body Lotion
As you may know I'm not one for the fake tan and when I tried it on the back of my arm it looked very orangey in contrast to my paleness. Don't worry though, I made my brother (who's darker than me) try on him and it looked great! (Welcome to Pale and Interesting - we don't test on animals but we do test on children!) This is still very moisturising and isn't even a tiny bit streaky.

Hand Food
This is an old favourite of mine. It moisturises your hands and makes them feel fab in the process! It also keeps your hands hydrated throughout the day. I'll admit that I'm not a big fan of the packaging. The size of the tube is slightly impractical as it is a bit to big to carry around in a bag (unless your Mary Poppins, of course).

The Righteous Butter Body Butter
I cannot begin to tell you how great this is! You get a massive 300ml tub of soft skin heaven. I like to apply this when I get out of the shower on my arms and legs. This hydrates the skin and leaves it feeling replenished and full of moisture.

Clean On Me
I love using this in the bath as it creates a luxurious lather on the skin. It comes in a gargantuan bottle  - so big that I wonder if I'll ever need to repurchase it! The best thing about this product is that the scent remains throughout the day unlike so many shower gels.

Peaches and Clean
This parcel came at the perfect time because I just ran out of my favourite cleanser. I was in need of something to remove my makeup. This does a grand job of that. It smells DIVINE!!! It smells strongly of peaches and removes your makeup effortlessly.

Thick and Fast Mascara
This mascara. You need it.
It holds the curl of my eyelash curler really well. It is not even remotely clumpy and you can add numerous layers and it still looks great!

Sexy Mother Pucker Lipgloss
Excuse the name. This gives a strong, slightly concerning tingling sensation to the lips. It all pays off though, because it leaves your lips looking a considerable amount plumper than before! You can wear this and when you feel that your lips have been suitably invigorated rub it off and put on a different lipstick, or you can wear it on its own.

Overall, I was extremely impressed by this set. Each product was brilliant. I would recommend each and every single thing in this set.

This is a great gift if you want to spend a bit more money on someone. If you wish to read a budget friendly gift guide click here.

Thanks for stopping by!
Only 1 days until Christmas. My next post is going to be a sales shopping guide and I think I will put it up tomorrow, on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Gift Guide Stocking Stuffers- Teen Girls | Pale and Interesting

Argh! It's almost Christmas and I couldn't be more excited.
Today I have decided to help anyone who knows a teenage girl out by writing this Christmas Gift Guide. I know how hard it is to find a gift for a teen girl so today I will show you how to find a budget friendly option.
I will try to find a gift that will suit every girl but that's a difficult task.

1. Makeup Sets
This is great for any beauty lover in your life. Many brands have holiday sets. They range from Makeup Revolution to Nars. You can get something great at any price.
Soap and Glory are known for their amazing gift sets (I got one last year and loved it).

2. Body Sets
It's always nice to recieve something that you can pamper yourself with and this is a great gift to  give. I chose to show a set from Nivea and  one from L'Occitane. When I was out getting supplies for this post I found Pixie, an Irish brand, being sold at my local pharmacy. I've heard great things about the brand so I decided to pick up a bath bomb. Bath bombs are a brilliant gift also!

3. Books
For every interest there is a great book to suit it. These range from photography books to fact books to makeup books.
I believe that a book is the perfect gift!

4. Candles
Christmas is, in my opinion, a great time to give candles as gifts. They come in all scents and sizes and there's one to suit everyone. During the Winter months, candles give a room a warm and inviting touch. You can get scents that are specific to Christmas or scents that are versatile to any time of year.

4. Fluffy Socks/ Pyjamas
Ever since I got myself some fluffy socks from Penney's my little brother has been persistently begging for a pair. I finally got him a pack last week. He loves them and can't be parted with them. Everyone loves fluffy socks. Everyone.

5. A Disposable Camera
Picture this- you've got a teenage girl in your life and you want to give them something old-school and cool but you don't love them enough to get them a Polaroid.
Clare's got a solution!
Get her a disposable camera! Genius.
It's also a nice idea to get her a photo album to go with her new disposable camera.

6. A Diary
Teenage girls have many conflicting emotions and while it may be a bit OTT to give her a voucher for a therapist, a diary is a great idea. You can get a real fancy one or a cute one. Paperchase have the best budget friendly diaries. I love to collect notebooks.
Notebooks are great for bloggers who need to jot down ideas for blog posts when they are out and about.

I'm so excited about my mini Christmas series and I hope you are too.
I had a great time writing this post!
Happy December!

Christmas OOTD hosted by Róisín from Totally Ró

My name is Róisín but you can call me Ró and my blog is Just to warn you, I haven’t done an OOTD in a long time (and I wouldn’t call my fashion sense on a day to day basis fabulous!). This is what I wore to a local Christmas market I had a stall at with my mini company.

Rudolf Jacket - Primark
Skirt - Primark
T-shirt - Primark
Boots - New Look
Jewellery - unknown

I wanted to look as festive as possible by wearing my Rudolf jacket and it is so nice and warm which is great now as it is getting quite cold in Ireland. I picked up the skirt (with the help of one of my very stylish friends) in Dublin when I was there on a trip with my year. I had gotten this grey t-shirt in the Springtime and I think it is really pretty and basic and goes well with the skirt. I got the boots last year and I am still in love with them, they can be dressed up or down, so easy to wear, comfortable and there is a tiny little heel (I don’t really need much height).

I’m defintely feeling Christmassy, are you?
See you,

Study Tips | Pale and Interesting

In my most recent post I briefly spoke about my study routine. I'm pretty much on top of my study game so I've decided to share my long kept secrets with you.

I'm no study professional (is that a profession?) but I do know what works for me. This might not suit you but hopefully it will and you will ace every test you ever get thanks to moi.

Enough with the rambling - let's get this party started!

Colour coding
I like to take rough notes in an A4 copy and then highlight different keywords in different colours. For example, in German I might highlight all the regular verbs in yellow and the irregular verbs in blue.
This makes studying a lot easier and quicker as the important words jump out at you.

Sticky notes
When learning vocab, I find it best to fully immerse myself. I like to write the words I need to know and stick them around my room. After seeing it a thousand times it will be driven into my head and I'll never forget it. I used to have a piece of vocab as my screensaver but that was when I was a first year.

Write a song
This may sound difficult but it is the easiest way to remember something when you have a little song to accompany it. When asked about the life of Christopher Columbus, I just think of a tune I made up with all of his important facts. It helps if it rhymes.

Quizlet is an app that allows you to revise any subject really easily. You can revise using flashcards, tests, matching games and more. But wait, it gets better! Most of the time you don't need to make your own tests because people like you have made their own and they are free to share with you.

These are my top study tips!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope this help you in whatever tests you have coming up.
Talk to you soon!

November Favourites | Beauty, Fashion, Books and more! | Pale and Interesting

It is almost the Christmas Month and I am feeling extremely festive (Cue reindeer jumpers, hot chocolates and reading by the fire).
Today I will be sharing with you my favourite things from the month of November. As usual, let's start with Beauty!

I have been loving the W7 In The Buff palette. This palette is a very practical one that is perfect for everyday use. In a hurry, this would be the palette I would pick up to put on in the car. It has six shades that are an essential for everyone. The lighter shades aren't as pigmented as one might hope - but then again they never are - in fact, these eyeshadows are a lot more pigmented than most eyeshadows at this price point.

In particular I have been adoring the dark brown shade called Katie. I find that I can put that through my crease, blend it out and hey-presto! These eyeshadows are highly pigmented and are beautifully refined. They are all matte shades.

My next favourite is a lipstick by MAC in the shade Russian Red. If you haven't heard of this you probably haven't heard of the microwave either. This was a purchase I would have to make sooner or later. In my opinion MAC lipsticks are flawless. I simply cannot fault them.

Russian Red is a gorgeous deep red shade. The formula is matte and is very long wearing. Unlike many matte lipsticks I have tried in the past, this lipstick is not even slightly drying. I would expect no less from a lipstick with a €20 price tag like this one. This is a festive shade that would suit so many skin tones.

My final beauty favourite is the Intensely Lavish lip liners from Kiko. They apply extremely smoothly but, once they set, are very long lasting. If you read my last post you would know that I got two shades - 03, a gorgeous red shade and 04, a beautiful mauve shade.

I think I've rambled enough about Beauty so with that let's move onto Fashion!

I am more comfortable in a wooly jumper than anywhere else. If I could I would share with you all 500 of my jumpers but it would be summer by then. Instead I'll settle for this caramel-nude oversized jumper from New Look that has stolen my heart. I think this is the most beautiful thing that my little eyes have ever witnessed.

Jumpers + oversized = Perfection.

I had to buy a size Medium because they were out of size Smalls (but boy am I glad I got that Medium?!). This is so cosy and so cute.

My other Winter obsession is blanket scarves! One day, I'll move to the North Pole and spend the rest of my days in jumpers and blanket scarves.

When I was in Spain I got this beautiful forest green blanket scarf from Stradivarius. Since then I have been living in it. I cannot speak highly enough of blanket scarves.

Now to Books!

I love snuggling up in a blanket with a hot chocolate and having a nice long read.
At the moment I'm reading The Return of Fursey by Mervyn Wall. This is the second book in the series by Mervyn Wall. It is a story about a simple minded monk in Early Christian Ireland and his encounters with the Devil. It's a hilarious read that I would recommend to anyone wishing to broaden their reading horizons.

I'm planning on doing a full review of this book as it has been my favourite for many years now.
And finally let's talk about my Miscellaneous favourites.

Christmas is just around the corner which also means that the Christmas tests are just around the corner. I've decided to pull up my socks and I have tried to organise my life. Helping me with this tall order is the app I have never spoken about anything remotely technical on this blog before but this has helped me so much with organisation of study.
This app looks classy and crisp. It is saving me from myself.

I've got a study post ready to go up. Be excited.

That's all for today!
Have a great day,
Clare xxx

Makeup Revolution Brush Set Review | Pale and Interesting

You know it's Christmas when the shops start displaying their gift sets. I was recently in Superdrug picking up some presents for two friends of mine when a certain brush set caught my eye.

Maybe it was the rose gold packaging that twinkled under the harsh light, maybe it was fate. Either way, I was immediately drawn to a glorious gift set by Makeup Revolution. This is not sponsored by Makeup Revolution (guys, I'm just an email away!) but it is hard to fault the brand.

Today I will be reviewing the Ultra Pro Brush Collection by Makeup Revolution.

First things first, the packaging is beautiful. There's something about black and rose gold that is so classy!

The set comes with three face brushes and three eye brushes. That's six brushes for just €17.50. It's very cheap for brushes but are they worth the money?

The brushes themselves are surprisingly long. They sit well in the hand and are comfortable to hold.
I will now review the brushes one by one.

The first and the biggest brush is the F104. It is a big fluffy powder brush. The bristles on this are soooo soft. I just want to run this over my face all day. The bristles are long and it applies powder very well.

The second brush is an angled contouring brush. I have nothing like this and am excited to see if this will revolutionize the way I apply contour powders. Again, the bristles are very soft.
This applies contour powder directly to the desired area. It is very easy to create the contoured look and it fits into the hollows of your cheeks perfectly.

The third and final face brush is a stippling brush.
I was very impressed by this particular brush. It applies evenly all over the face. I find that often when i use brushes for foundation they tend to look streaky but this one blends perfectly.
It can turn a "meh" foundation into a gorgeous high end-looking foundation.
It gives an airbrushed finish and little bit of product goes a long way.

The first eye brush is the E103. It is a domed blending brush.
This, however, does not reach the standard set by its predecessors.
I find the bristles slightly more coarse and tend to scratch at my eyelid slightly.
Having said that, it still does the job of blending eyeshadow out well.

The second eye brush is this E101. This is a flat eyeshadow brush.
It is very small and packs the eyeshadow onto a small area.
I'll admit that I haven,t been using this for the purpose intended. Instead, I've been using it as a concealer brush for any spots or imperfections that I might want to cover.

The final brush in the set is the E104 brush. It is an angled eyebrow brush.
This is ah-mazing.
It is so easy to create a natural brow.
I have used this without fail since I got this set.

I just washed the brushes and am waiting for them to dry, but there were no hairs that fell out during the washing or drying process and the brushes seem to have retained their brilliant.

Overall this set was a massive success and I advise all of you to run to your nearest Superdrug and buy this.
You. Need. It.

Thank you for reading!
