Preserving Memories: Diary Writing

I have kept a diary for years now. I've gone through phases where I thought it was the coolest thing possible and also phases when I thought it was the most loserly thing.

In the last year I've been more intent on documenting what is the end of my childhood and the beginning of adulthood.

I get great pleasure from reading passages I wrote when I was 10, explaining the tough life of a girl  of that age.

I hope that I'll be able to read what I write today, in years to come, and laugh (and cringe).

To girls (and boys, I suppose), of my age, diary writing doesn't seem to be very popular. It is the age of the internet and social media and not much an individual does can change that.

But how long will this age last? 20 years? 10? 5?

Imagine having to look up an encyclopedia for something you could easily Google.

Or having to wait a day for news to printed in the next days papers. Imagine, even worse, having to pay for it!

Part of me longs for an internet-free world, but without it I don't suppose you'd be reading this right now.

And that is why I am asking for a diary for Christmas. I only have a couple of pages left in my current one. I found some really cute notebooks in Paperchase. So if you're looking for one, you should try there.

If you don't already keep one, perhaps it could be a new-years-resolution.

I'm sorry about the break I took from blogging. My exams ended on Friday and the Christmas holidays have begun so I'll have plenty of time for blogging!

Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipglosses | Review

I've never bought anything from Essence. I suppose I've always thought that it's too cheap to be decent. Last week I decided to try it out and I bought 2 lipglosses.

I got the Essence XXXL Longlasting Lipglosses in 06 Soft Nude and 07 Silky Red. In the future I'd really like to pick up a few more from the vast collection.

06 Soft Nude is a very wearable colour for day-to-day. It's quite a sophisticated shade that I'm in love with.

The range is a matte shade but these lipglosses are far from drying. This colour is not very longlasting unlike Silky Red.

07 Silky Red is not as subtle but is a gorgeous red. It is applied very easily, as is 06. It's not a deep, vampy red, but a lighter almost orange shade that will make your teeth look spectacularly white.

The fact that they are almost opaque after one coat is quite a bonus.  Although they do smell awful! I believe it's a caramel/ chocolate scent that I can't stand. Yuk!

If you have something that you want to see over the next few weeks please let me know. I'll try to squeeze some blogging in with my studying for Christmas tests ( or should I say: squeeze some studying in!). Until then!

NYX Blush | Review

It would be fair to say that I have quite an abundance of blushes. I mainly own darker, browned shades. I bought this particular one over the summer when I was in Vienna. Since then it has been on trial. I now feel like I can give you an accurate description after having it for a few months.

I have the colour Pinched, which is pink with a lot of gold sparkles in it.  This wouldn't usually be my cup of tea but we all have to take chances in this world and not worry about the outcome. It turns out that this particular "leap of faith" was a big success.

This adds a, really gorgeous, bit of colour to your complexion. I was also pleasantly surprised with the glitter. It adds more of a glow than a glitter, which I wouldn't be able to  stand. The light bounces off it , giving you an angelic appearance (not quite, but you understand what I mean)

This is a cheap and cheerful product and I'll probably pick up a few more shades when I get the opportunity.

Happy Friday!!!

My Confidence.

Some people are born with confidence and self esteem. Some people build it up over a series of events. I gained a lot of confidence from debating.

I've always been the performing type and I love to impress. That doesn't necessarily mean that I am confident in myself.

I love acting and pretending to be somebody else but it is only recently that I have become confident with my own judgement. A couple of years ago I would refuse to put my hand up to answer a question in class. I am comfortable in each subject and usually knew the answer.

I was afraid of how my peers would react if got the question wrong.

Then, in 6th class, we were all encouraged to try out for the school's first debating team. This was very appealing to me and I grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Coming from the largest primary school in Ireland, there was a lot of competition but I was determined to get a spot on the team. If I'm honest, just getting on the team boosted my self esteem greatly.

Not only was I making new friends, but I was developing a personal confidence. I had a great academic year in 6th class and it pushed to my limits and exceeded my previous boundaries.

Only last week was I elected as class rep. (this is not bragging as I am sharing my inspirational story).

I would definitely recommend taking up debating, a sport or something of the sort to anybody with self esteem issues!

I hope this is helpful and I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday.

Clarins Rouge Eclat | Review

Not too long ago, I got a quite beautiful looking lipstick from Clarins. Today I will decide for myself whether it is worth the money.

I have to hand it to them at Clarins for the gorgeous, gold packaging. It draws attention to the product very well!

If you have read my previous blogposts, you may know that I'm slightly paranoid about the smell of the makeup I use. This has a sickly sweet, cranberry smell that is hard to ignore.

I have the shade Rosewood which is a brownish pink colour. It is moisturizing and sits on the lips very nicely. It enhances only the best parts of my lips.

Then comes the "cuppa tea test". The lipstick stayed longer than most that I have tried but didn't exactly succeed. It disappeared from my bottom lip entirely. But hey, that's nothing that can't be fixed with a quick top up!

Overall I am very pleasantly surprised by this great lipstick. It is perfect for Autumn/Winter and will definitely be making an appearance in my makeup bag.

I hope you enjoyed this review and I'm glad to say that I have started posting a lot more frequently.

If you have any reviews you'd like to see in the future be sure to let me know.

Until next time,

Seeing Red?

We all have imperfections that seem, to us, like the worst things ever but others barely notice them. Every one of us has at least one insecurity, whether that's our weight, spots or the shape of our nose. Basically, we tend to make mountains out of molehills out of these imperfections.

I, too, have a very minor insecurity although it seems like a huge thing. I am very paranoid about my skin. I get very red. I'm red anyway but I used blush quite easily. Thankfully I have managed to get the blushing under control.

It may be a small case of rosacea or something else entirely. All I know for sure is that it has been here for the last few years and it isn't giving up without a fight. I began to wonder if wearing makeup was affecting it. Looking at old pictures now, though, I realise that it's been around for quite a while.

Enough background talk. Last year I discovered a primer from No7 that counteracts my redness wonderfully. It is the No7 Colour Calming Primer. It neutralises and conceals the redness and does the primary job of a primer.

This is green so don't panic when you first see it. The green is meant to counteract the red, giving you a perfect base for your makeup

If I remember correctly this cost around €30. But there's so much in the tube that it will last you a lifetime. I recommend this to anyone and everyone who is uncomfortable with red skin.

If you try this out, let me know how it went! Enjoy your day! Wherever you are, it's probably better than the lashing rain we have here in Dublin...

October Beauty Favourites!

I suppose you could say that this blogpost is a bit early. I know that we are still in October but there are so many amazing beauty products that I have been using and loving. I've made a list of my very favourite things and that's what I'll be talking about today.

We'll start off with makeup or lips to be more specific. I bought the Soap and Glory Super Colour FabuLipstick in Blush Pink a couple of months ago. I didn't really like it and didn't use it for a while but recently it's been my most used lipstick. Its a subtle darker-than-nude shade that compliments my pale complexion really nicely. It's a matte lipstick but is far from drying. Infact this is quite moisturising for the lips! I wear this almost every day and I think it is a perfect Autumn/Winter lip colour!

Next, onto cheeks! About a week ago I was in Penneys (Irish Primark) picking up a few bits and pieces for my Halloween costume when I stumbled upon the Wet n Wild  blush in Mellow Wine. Once again I would recommend it for people, like me, who have a ghost like complexion. This is a really flattering colour for pale gals in particular. It only costs a couple of Euros and already I have gotten so much use out of it.

Now, I want to talk about an eyeshadow I recently got from Natural Collection. It's in the shade Crushed Walnut which is a dark brown perfect for using for your crease or eyebrows. It comes in a single pot form and costs €2.49. How can you go wrong? This isn't the longest wearing eyeshadow out there but I have been using it so much over the last week since I bought it that I couldn't not include it. I wear it in my crease on its own if I'm feeling really lazy on days like today! It is a really gorgeous colour that I would recommend to anyone.

This has been a really quick, to-the-point blogpost . These are my most used products of this month and I'll be sure to let you know when something new comes along. Enjoy this Autumn evening.

Bis spater (German for until later!)

Locker Essentials

I am sure that I'm not the only one who struggles when it comes to my locker. I mainly struggle with organisation. Thankfully I have a good sized locker which makes it a lot easier. I've learnt some tips and tricks that have helped me immensely and now I'm going to share them with you!

1) Our locker room is so busy between lessons and during breaks that you need to get in and out as quickly as possible. While that's important it's also very important to get all your right books.
I have bought about 8 huge folders to fit all of my books for each subject in. They are A3 and need to be super strong to carry everything. When you get to your locker you can just grab the folder and leave before the corridors and stairs get too crowded. This also means you won't forget any books.

2) Make room for books. A problem for some of us is that there isn't enough room in our lockers. Even though I have enough room for books there are some additional essentials which can take up quite some room (e.g. tracksuit). I was advised to get a sort of metal step from Ikea that is perfect to keep in the locker. Thankfully it doesn't look too horrid. Infact it's quite cute. When I put it in this morning it fit in perfectly and I'm very happy with my new space. I've been keeping my coat under it with my books on top. Make sure your coat isn't wet, though!

3) Always keep plastic bags in your locker. On rainy days you can put your wet coat in the plastic bag. It will ensure that your coat doesn't saturate all your favourite business books. You can put the bag on a hook and you are saving more space. Plastic bags are also great for putting your tracksuit in after long hockey practises.

3) Get to know the person with the locker beside yours. Make sure they are trustworthy. Give them your spare key so that if you forget your key, that person can give you the spare. If you are a bit sceptical of the person beneath you, like I was, just give the key to your closest friend. But do try to remember your key!

I suppose that's it for today. Sorry for not posting anything in so long! I'll be back soon with some more beauty news!

Lasting Perfection, Collection 2000

We've all heard wonderful things about the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer but, unless I've missed something, not very much has been said about the other 2 products in the line. That's why I picked them up in Boots yesterday. In total, the Lasting Perfection line has a concealer (obviously), a foundation and a powder. They are priced at around €5.50-€7 which is a very good price, but is it a bargain or a waste of money?

The first thing I notice is the smell of the foundation. I was apalled to find that this is the worst smelling foundation I have tried. It has a revolting odour that resembles the smell of paint which is slighty worrying.

The foundation does nothing for me. It is far too dark which is disappointing because it is in the lightest shade in the line. I feel like there isn't much coverage and you can't really build it up. Overall the foundation is a very very disappointing start.

The concealer however is a new favourite of mine. It matches my skintone very well and I think that it will be a new favourite of mine. It is a high coverage concealer which is perfect for use all over the face. Until now I've been using the Nyx Concealer which comes in a pot form. Sadly the concealer is similar to the foundation in that it smells like the foundation.

Lastly comes the face powder. I didn't realise that this comes with a mirror and sponge until I got home. I haven't used the sponge and don't intend to but you never know when it might come in handy. I really like this powder. I use it over foundation and concealer but I just tried it on it's own and it really doesn't look too bad. I'm not sure that it's my favourite powder but for less than €6 who am I to complain?!

The only letdown with this line was the foundation. Did the others make up for it though? Collection should broaden their selection of shades but in general I was quite happy with this line.

Thank you for reading and enjoy your day!

Getting to know me!

Hi there!
My name is Clare and I'd like to welcome you to my new blog. There's going to be a lot of beauty, some fashion and everything in between!

As for me, I'm a student living in Dublin, Ireland. I've always had a passion for literature and the English language in general. My love for makeup has been strong since I was little over one. In my aunt's house there are pictures of me raiding her makeup bag. If only I could still fit all my makeup in one bag! I have been told by other family members that as long as I've been able to talk I've been complaining about my troublesome teenage acne!

I have gotten a lot of my confidence from debating. I got onto our school debating team at the beginning of 6th class and our team made it to the semi finals of an all- Dublin league where we were beaten. It was inevitable seeing as we had the lower hand when it came to the motion. No matter how we did I can say that I gained a whole lot of confidence from debating. In the near future I will make a blogpost on the topic because I would love to think that my experiance had helped others too. After all isn't that the primary purpose of a blog?

I have quite a few hobbies such as reading, viola playing and writing. I have had one blog in the past which I set up when I was about 10. The content was absolute rubbish!!! Hopefully I will have more of a connection with this blog. Already it has more purpose than the last one.

I have planned lots if great things for this blog that I can't wait to tell you about. My box of drafts is overflowing with half finished blogposts which will be posted over the next couple of weeks. I have a series on it's way to you which will be released very soon. I hope my blog sounds promising to you. I look forward to writing for you in the future.

Talk to you soon. Thanks for reading and sorry it's so short.
